So, how did CM Stars Farms come to be? One of our owners, Mandy, spent a good bit of her younger years either on her grandparents' farm, her uncle's farm, or a family friend's farm. That time gave her a love & appreciation for what farmers do & what farm animals can provide. It also instilled a lifelong love of animals, including the ones most people never give a second thought to. That love ranges from farm animals to wild animals to dogs & cats; basically anything with fur, feathers, or scales. 
That love lead her to be a wildlife rehabber for a number of years as well as foster many cats & dogs for the local shelter. Since then, her attention has turned back to farm animals that most see as simply food. Mandy understands people have to eat & many enjoy meat, but she also understands that too often food animals aren't treated humanely. For that reason, she's started rescuing chickens, particularly roosters, that would normally be culled or sent to "freezer camp". Mandy doesn't fault anyone for eating meat, but she sees a greater value in these animals. A quote from Mandy explains it better than we can. "Yes, hens & roosters help sustain many people each & every year, but I have seen too many times when they are mistreated. Just because they are meant to become food or supply food, eggs for example, it doesn't mean they aren't sentient beings. They feel happiness, fear, & pain. They form bonds with each other & their keepers. They mourn in their own unique way when a member of the flock is gone.  They can recognize many faces, including human faces & have memories. The same applies to many animals people see as disposable or valueless.  I'm not saying everyone should become Vegan, that is a personal choice everyone has to make for themselves, but even food animals can be treated humanely, both in life & at harvest time. However, all of our little cluckers will never see "freezer camp". I, along with my granddaughter, are just too attached & don't have it in us. Now, selling their eggs to help pay for their feed is a different story."

Our other owner, Michael, grew up with family members who had green thumbs. He is now putting what those early years & family members taught him to good use by raising his own crops & passing down that knowledge to his grandchildren. As Michael says, "A lot of the old ways are disappearing right along with the love of getting your hands dirty & growing your own food. If we don't start passing them down, they will eventually disappear forever."

Mandy has the "critter" side of things covered while Michael has the planting side covered. Between both of their loves & their philosophies, they were lead to buy a small place they could turn into a mini farm several years ago, but it is their future goals that lead them to form CM Stars Farms & start selling to the public.  
What goals would those be? We're glad you asked! Mandy & Michael plan to buy a larger property in Tennessee (close to Mandy's family) where they can expand both CM Stars Creations & CM Stars Farms. With a larger property closer to family they will be able to have more of their kids & grandkids involved. They will be able to rescue more farm animals, offer events & activities for both adults & kids to enjoy, & Mandy can get back into wildlife rehab at least to a degree.
